i should be workin'
but i'm not
i should be lining up my ducks
but i'm outta control
should be settling in for the long haul
but right now, i'm non-sensical

as i sit legs crossed, pants bunched
my discomfort is absolute
i'm contaminated by a toxin i can't explain
all questions are moot
can't grab it by the horns and put it down
i've been diggin up my lawn but it ain't in the ground
so i strap on my fake smile and head off to the burbs
knockin doors til my knuckles bruise, this is absurd

knock knock nobody's home
sell me a lyric, sell me a poem
but right now it's just me and the drone
of my mind set on idle like a busy signal or a dial tone

i was runnin' runnin' and then i hit a wall
and it knocked all the words from my pen
ya i tried to pick em' up but then the dark set in
like a stranger crept up, i never saw him enter the room
and when i'm not lookin' he knocks my guitar out or tune
now the notes are transparent, i hear the sounds but can't follow the chords
so i keep knockin' doors

well my patience got stale so i threw it in the fridge
but somebody unknowingly set i loose
i had a plan for my patience a controlled experiment
i was gonna grow myself a muse
but that didn't work, so i hauled my amp out to the garage
had a feelin' inspiration was trapped in the walls
but i was wrong, turns out it was setting up shop in the walls
aww shit!!
i'm restored
